A First Glimpse of the Samsung Omnia HD

Billboards up near the site of this week's Mobile World Congress tradeshow feature the Samsung Omnia HD, a previously unannounced smartphone.

Details in the ads are extremely limited. Still, the form-factor is revealed, of course -- a tablet shape with a large display.

Clearly, that display will be the focus for this model, as the description given is "Touch & HD Movie."

Exactly how high definition this device's screen will be isn't known, but by naming it the Omnia HD, Samsung has definitely raised expectations.

Is this the Samsung Acme i8910?

This will obviously be a successor to the current Samsung Omnia, which suggests the upcoming model will also be based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile.

However, the device in the billboards looks almost identical to the Samsung Acme i8910, which unconfirmed reports say will run Nokia's Symbian S60 operating system.

At this point, there's no way to be sure, as the only image of this device shows a fairly generic video player that could easily have been pasted in by the artist who created the advertisement.

The answer to this question, and additional details on the Samsung Omnia HD, will have to wait until the announcement, which should come in the next few days.

Showing Off the Samsung UltraTOUCH, Too
The same billboard that has the Omnia HD also shows the Samsung UltraTOUCH. This model is much less mysterious, as its creator pre-announced it last week.

All the details aren't available yet, but this device will sport a 2.8-inch Active-OLED touchscreen and a sliding hardware numberpad.

It will run Samsung's finger-friendly TouchWiz user interface on top of a proprietary OS, and have an 8 MPx camera.

When the Samsung UltraTOUCH will be released is not yet known, but will likely be announced this week.
